Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless technology created in 1994 that allows computers, phones and other devices to talk over short distances with a range of roughly 100 meters. Bluetooth uses radio waves, and is designed to connect to each other  and be a secure and inexpensive way of connecting and exchanging information between devices without wires. This is useful if you are wanting to send some media or a certain file which isnt that large to another device in close range.

MSM- MultiMedia Short Messaging Service

MMS is a standard way to send messages that include multimedia content to and from mobile phones. It was created after SMS to allow users to do more than simply send text to eachother. main uses of MMS is to send photographs from camera-equipped handsets, although it is also popular as a method of delivering news and entertainment content including videos, pictures, text pages and ringtones

W3C

W3C Was originally created by Tim Bernser-Lee back in 1994, W3C is the company that orginally created the "WWW" (World Wide Web) under Tims leadership. W3C also control the internet they sell the web pages and they also check to valiadate websites

Broadband - ADSL

Broadband in telecommunications refers to a signaling method that includes or handles a relatively wide range (or band) of frequencies. In general it means an internet type which is pretty fast. AKA Broadband internet

ADSL is a kind of modem used by the Broadband internet, if you have a broadband internet you need to use an ADSL modem, before the ADSL we had normal modems, which converted analog telephone line signals to digital and digital signals to analog telephone signals.

VOIP - Voice Over Internet Protocol

VOIP is a means of allowing users to talk over the internet, one of the most popular ways this is used is "skype", skype is a program that allows users to make calls to landline phone users and to other skype users on their pc allowing people to speak through the internet.

File:Voip-typical.gif

The actual protocol for Internet-based telephone calls was published in March 1999 by the Network Working Group as "Proposed Standard--Request for Comments 2543 (RFC 2543)." Although the phrase "voice over Internet protocol" (VoIP) is not actually used in the document, this is origin of the VoIP standard.

video Confrencing

during this lesson we had a guest speaker who introduced us to a social network program he had uploaded to moodle which allows users to send and view webcam aswell as chat.

the idea behind this was to show us that it could be possible to have a completely online lesson
if we all loged in and had webcams the lecturer could show use text documents via the tools and could also select one of us to be the presenter if he wanted us to answer a question.

there is however some set backs, video sessions cant be recorded and presentation files cant be shown through the software.

Brands

a brand is giving a product an idenity which is cruical for making it stand out in a competitive business world.

most brands are known through a logo, slogan or catch-phrase.
e.g. nike's 'just do it'. without branding companies wouldnt be able to make themeselves stand out from their rivals.

week 6

Everything is going swimmingly a new superior looking background has been created and applied to the website, the video has been completed and has come out perfectly, all information has been written up and added to the website and pictures of the college from google earth have been added to the website.

the buttons on the website have all been updated with an over-stage to change colour when the mouse is scrolled over to make links more visible to users of the website and the video has been uploaded onto the website.
we have also added back buttons on all our pages to make navigating around the website much easier.

we are now just polishing off the website to make it look more appealing and working on our production file.

week 5

nick was kicked off the course, meaning alex has taken over the video editing while the website and photoshop editing is left with me and kyle, the website is up and running although is very basic and lacking detail and eye-catchers,
are next step is to add more life to the website, create a new background image and generally fine tune all the buttons.

difference between vector and bitmap images

Bitmap Graphics
Bitmap graphics are the most common graphic format in use on the web and, indeed, on the computer. With the exception of Flash. Bitmaps files are larger than vectors due to the fact that they are made up of tiny dots (pixels) each coloured diffrently to show detail on the image, below is an overlook of bitmap images.

Pixel/Raster/Bitmap Image

Resolution:
Screen - 72dpi - RGB
Print - 300dpi - CMYK

Pro's:
Detail
Lots Of Colour

Con's:
Can't Make Bigger (Starts Off Large)
Can't Convert Very Well

Versions:
.jpg - smaller file size
.png } *simple images
.gif } not many colours*
.bmp - photos
.tif
.psd - photoshop file

Vector Graphics
Rather than being composed of pixels, Vector graphics consist of points, lines, and curves which, when combined, can form complex objects . These objects can be filled with solid colors, gradients, and even patterns.
Vector graphics are mathematical creations. For this reason, the programs that are used to create them save instructions on how the image should be drawn, rather than how it looks. This is the key difference between the two types of graphics. Because the computer has a description of how the image should look, it can be redrawn at any size, in any position, without losing any quality. A vector graphic resized to 5 times its original dimensions is simply reproduced, exactly, at the new size. It can also be freely manipulated

however due to this vector images remain  looking realtively simple in design and look, below is an overlook of vector images.

Vector ImagesPro's:
Scalable
Editable

Con's:

Disscusions fourms and blogs

Blogs tend to be more personal as people are expressing the views on subjects more openingly as the people who would be looking at there blogs will tend to have the same views so will be more open in their comments.

whereas fourms have a whole range of people with different views alot fourms tend to get into heated debates about peoples views on subjects

group project week2

with the footage we got from week one we decided to split into two groups with alex and nick editing the video while me and ace worked on the website with him focusing more on the photoshop side and me on the flash.
We have the college title and logo down and the basic start of the website but we still have alot more to do.

although our group is starting to struggle with nick who seems to be off all the time, and now stopping progress as he took the video tape home last week and the editing was done on his account video progress has halted.

Group Project - week 1

We started off planning our interview questions which we agreed should be simple and quick to answer questions so as to not leave long blank pauses in the interview where people would be thinking about their answers.
the next day we booked out a camera and got a few shots around college, we also got 2 interviews with staff of the college but failed to retrieve one with a student as everyone we asked seemed to be unwilling.

3G - 3rd Generation

3G or International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 or (IMT2000) better known as 3G (3rd Generation.)  is a connection that allows any mobile phone to access video, audio or any other communications through a mobile broadband. The applications you can use on 3G are Mobile TV, Video on Demand, Video Conferencing, Tele-Medicine or Location-based services. The 3G network currently covers 93% of the UK population. The 3G services are designed to offer broadband cellular access at speeds of 2Mbps and be generally fast for all users that use it.

General Packet Radio Service - (GPRS)

GPRS is a packet oriented mobile data service on the 2G and 3G cellular communication systems part of the Global Systems For Mobile Communications (GSM) GPRS is A 'Best-Effort' system meaning users arent specified with a certain level of quality the service does its best effort to provide top quailty service to the user depening on how busy the system is.
GPRS extends the services that GSM provided and improved existing ones, suchas internet accesss and instant messaging via the internet.

wireless application protocol and global system for mobiles.

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is an open international standard for application-layer network communications in a wireless-communication environment. Most use of WAP involves accessing the mobile web from a mobile phone, it was first released in 1999 with mixed reviews across the world with it being a huge succsess japan however failing to impress uk citizens until 2003/04 where it sparked some intrest in the uk, WAP however has died out with phones providing HTML instead.

GSM(Global System for Mobiles) is a second generation digital mobile cellular technology using a combination of frequency division multiple access (FDMA) and time division multiple access (TDMA). GSM operates in several frequency bands: 400MHz, 900MHz and 1800MHz. On the TDMA side, there are eight timeslots or channels carrying calls, which operate on the same frequency. The standard was jointly developed between European administrations under Groupe Speciale Mobile in the 1980s and introduced commercially in 1991. Unlike other cellular systems, GSM provides a high degree of security by using subscriber identity module (SIM) cards and GSM encryption.

The Moodle Disscusion fourm

Personally i believe the disscusion fourm is a very good idea to help the class to digitally communicate although i doubt it will be kept serious for too long as everyone has already started to mess about on it.

What Is SMS?

SMS stands for short messaging service, it is a texting service that uses standardize comunication protocals that allow the exchange of short text messages between fixed line or mobile phones devices. on average an sms text is about 160 characters long.
